Unfortunately and much to our regret it is presently unfeasable to attend live-performances in concert and opera. However, the shut-down also provides us with more time to listen to music-recordings devotedly. Therefore it meets well that a special rarity has just been released on CD. A masterpiece, written at the step from the classic to the romantic era, which could have been rediscovered with enthusiastic recognition in concert version in Budapest last autumn: Phèdre by Jean-Baptist Lemoyne, first-performed in 1786. Our tenor Julien Behr singing the part of the noble Hippolyte is part of the first-rate cast. At the conductor’s desk of his Orfeo Orchestra and the Purcell Choir the excellent György Vashegyi, an enthusiastic and unfailing explorer of the French repertory. A highly successful initiative of the Palazzetto Bru Zane!
