After Mozart getting back home with Gluck

Doubtlessly Julien Behr managed to establish himself as Mozart-tenor within the last few years. He appeared successfully from Bern via Paris to Minneapolis as Tamino (The magic flute) and even more recently as Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) with the Cologne Opera and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. Here some press-cuts from the Paris-production:

„Julien Behr delights as Don Ottavio with his warm, lyric timbre.” (operapoint.com, 7.12.16)

„As elegant Ottavio Julien Behr undertakes the strenuous effort to turn our interest to this shallow character being mostly neglected by the libretto. Even if remaining a little unobtrusive in act I, he provides a distinguished timbre, warm high notes and a secure technique for the mask-trio. Much more relaxed in act II, he delivers the aria „Il mio tesoro“ with utmost delicacy, impeccable phrasing and masterly support of breathe“. (operaphile 15.12.16)

„Gorgeous Julien Behr’s Ottavio with fine vocal colors: What a pleasure to hear one day after Stanislas de Barbeyrac another tenor who is committed to French singing culture and disposing of an equally unique timbre and style!“ (qobuz.com, 09.12.16)

„Excellent and with elegant vocal culture Julien Behr as Don Ottavio – superb his aria „Dalla sua pace“.“ (La lettre du musicien 8.12.2016)

Two years after his debut with the opera-house of his hometown Lyon (Arbace in Idomeneo), Julien Behr is returning back there as Admète in Gluck’s Alceste. Gluck, the reformer of the French opera who was so influential on Mozart too.
