Successful debut in Salzburg imbodying an opera singer

The world premiere of Charlotte Salomon at this summer's Salzburg Festival caused a high echo in the international media. After Gesualdo, staged at the opera in Zurich in 2010, this is now the second opera composed by Marc-André Dalbavie. Anaïk Morel performed the role of Paulinka Bimbam, Charlotte Salomon's stepmother, whose name in real life was Paula Lindberg and who was an opera singer.

In apemusicale.com, Suzanne Daumann underlines: "a great mezzo interpreted by a great mezzo" (02.09.2014). The opera describes the very tragic destiny of Charlotte who takes refuge in painting and is killed at the age of 26 in Auschwitz, whereas the scenic appearances of Paulinka are like a warming ray of light, especially when intoning the Habanera from Carmen. Forumopera online emphasises: "Another flawless mezzo, Anaïk Morel incarnates the stepmother, the least neurotic element in the family, a both talented and elate woman who loves life and its pleasures" (11.08.2014). The Salzburger Nachrichten praise "Anaïk Morel as Paulinka and her tastefully presented songs" (30.07.2014) and the Frankfurter Rundschau remembers the "powerful charisma of Anaïk Morel" (30.07.2014). The International New York Times appreciates „the rich-toned mezzo-soprano Anaïk Morel, sympathetic yet formidable as Charlotte’s stepmother“ (14.08.2014). The Wiener Zeitung also pays tribute to "Anaïk Morel's noble timbre in her role as stepmother" (30.07.2014). Resmusica online's review is of the same tenor and soberly concludes: "Anaïk Morel has a magnificent voice" (03.08.2014).
