When singing becomes a life-threatening danger for an operatic role, this may be perceived as an expression of overreaching imagination. However, the part of Antonia in Jacques Offenbach‘s one and only opera The tales of Hoffmann is one of the essential roles for a lyric soprano, while the work itself represents an archetypal fanciful opera in general. With her role-debut as Antonia Anja-Nina Bahrmann is now adding another adequate new challenge to her repertory.
The staging of the new Vienna Volksoper-production of Offenbach’s Hoffmann was assigned to the leading team Renaud Doucet und André Barbe which already presented imaginative staging-concepts for the operas Turandot and Rusalka at this theatre. After the opening-night of the new-production on October 15th, 2016 there will be numerous consecutive performances – with changing casts – until December of this year.
