After having joined last year’s world-premiere of Un autre hiver, a poignant opera by Dominique Pauwels (music) and Normand Chaurette (text), Marion Tassou is continuing her collaboration with the LOD muziektheater. The new world-premiere is a tribute to painter Hieronymus Bosch on the occasion of his 500th death anniversary.
"The authors of Bosch Beach (Vasco Mendonça, composer and Dimitri Verhulst, text) are choosing the notion of hell on earth as their starting point (following the inspiration of Bosch’s painting The Seven Deadly Sins) in order to view our present world through the painter’s eyes. What does hell look like today? Where is today’s ‘False Paradise’, a concealed paradise on earth? Sunbathing at the marvelous beach of Lampedusa while refugees are washed ashore obviously gets pretty close to this idea.”
Opening night on September 10, 2016 at the Concertgebouw in Bruges.
